I’ve never had lessons, but I can play beacause I can read music, so I incorporated that into the piano. However, my skills are limited. To be really good, do I need lessons or could I just use piano books that teach you.

Piano lessons will help. But if you’re dedicated, then you’ll get really good.
Beethoven didn’t have lesons.
well my sister plays piano and she never took lessons she is self taught and she is the best piano player i know. she also plays violin at a school of the arts and she has been playing violin since she was in 5th grade so thats how she knows how to read music.
I would learn the basics from a teacher first as you need to use certain fingers to press certain keys otherwise when the music gets more difficult you will have to re-learn your technique in order to be able to physically play the piece.
no way!……tons of people have taught themselves how to play intstraments….i think it is awesome…..i say jst use the books that teach you, it might be a challenge, but what the heck….try it…..
although you may argue that beethoven never had teachers i would have to say that a) he was a genius to begin with and b) he must have taken master classes as he got older
i think once you start reading music and gone through the books you have taught yourself as much as you can. I would suggest lessons. You can only go so far on your own. you do not need to take weekly lessons but i would suggest having lessons every other week at least.
lessons would be very helpful, but you can do it yourself also…just takes more time to reach a level
i would say lessons cant hurt. but its really depends on the person.
I am a piano teacher but I would say you can teach yourself to a certain standard. As long as you keep trying and practise. Give yourself goals, pieces you want to play etc. If you get stuck you can always have lessons once a month etc, just to keep you going!
Good Luck!
I think you can teach yourself and get good at it if you are dedicated! Good luck!
Although practice is the best thing, lessons would be a benefit. What would really help is to learn music theory. Check into you local college.
You could go it alone but it would take longer to learn than if someone was teaching you. If you can read music, you’re already half way there.
Good Luck!
I’ve been teaching myself for 3 years, and I’ve managed alright. Piano teachers are jerks anyway. Just maybe go to a music shop and buy a level 1 book to learn the notes and scale and you’ll be okay.
